YOUR EXPERT EYE ON IEP AND TRIENNIAL REPORTS

When it comes to your child’s Initial, Annual, or Triennial Psychological Report, a small oversight can lead to years of missed opportunities. These documents are the foundation of your child’s educational support—but they are often dense, technical, and difficult to navigate.

Basic Document Review

The Basic Review Service is designed for families who want a professional, independent review of one psychoeducational assessment report, such as an Initial, Triennial, or Addendum evaluation.

This service is ideal for families preparing for an upcoming IEP meeting, seeking a clearer understanding of their child’s documents, or considering whether additional follow-up or support may be needed.

Through this service, I carefully review the report to determine whether the examiner used appropriate assessment tools, followed accepted professional practices, and clearly explained the results. The review focuses on whether the evaluation is well-constructed, comprehensive, and supported by data, and whether the conclusions reasonably establish (or do not establish) eligibility for special education services.

This service does not include IEP review or goal analysis and does not replace a full evaluation. It is intended to help families better understand the quality and appropriateness of the assessment and to feel informed when reviewing results or preparing for discussions with the school team.

Comprehensive Review Service

The Comprehensive Review Service is designed for families who want a deeper, more detailed analysis of their child’s special education documents and clearer guidance for next steps.

This service includes a thorough review of one to three psychoeducational assessment (Initial, Triennial, or Addendum) and/or related IEP documents, such as the annual review and educational goals. The focus is on understanding how assessment data connects to eligibility decisions, services, and goals.

Through this review, I evaluate whether the assessment was conducted using appropriate tools, whether results were accurately interpreted, and whether conclusions and eligibility determinations are supported by data. I also examine the IEP to determine whether identified needs are appropriately addressed through measurable goals, supports, and services.

This service is ideal for families who are considering requesting an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) and want professional guidance before moving forward. A comprehensive review can help determine whether concerns stem from the quality of the assessment, interpretation of results, or implementation within the IEP—allowing families to make informed decisions about whether an IEE may be necessary.

Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)

IEE is an evaluation of a student conducted by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district. Parents have the right, under federal and California special education law, to request an IEE if they disagree with the school district’s assessment of their child.

An IEE is designed to provide an objective, independent perspective on a student’s educational, learning, emotional, or behavioral needs. It can help clarify concerns, identify areas that may have been overlooked, and offer additional insight to support appropriate educational planning.

Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), parents have the right to participate meaningfully in decisions regarding their child’s special education services. This includes the right to disagree with a school district’s evaluation and to request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) at public expense when there is disagreement with the district’s assessment.

Understanding these rights empowers families to advocate effectively and ensure that educational decisions are based on appropriate, individualized data.
